Intro to GIS - Lab1 Overview of ArcGIS

  First week of learning GIS! During this week's introductory lab, I began building the groundwork for mastering the software. The lab focused on the basics of ArcGIS and how to navigate the software. While the program initially seemed straightforward to navigate, the overview lesson went into greater detail on various features within the software. Upon completing the first lesson, I feel more comfortable in navigating the software and how it can be used to better understand data. I am happy with how my first map turned out, mapping different major cities across the globe. I eagerly anticipate upcoming lessons to further my knowledge and understanding using ArcGIS.

Hello! My name is Addison and I am originally from Pensacola. I graduated from the University of West Florida in 2022 with a bachelors in marine biology. I am currently working full time for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. I joined the program because I had been interested in GIS and wanted to gain knowledge and skills in the GIS world. I hope to use what I learn from these courses to further my career. Visibility Analysis Mod03

This week the assignment was to complete four ESRI courses:  Introduction to 3D Visualization,  Performing Line of Sight Analysis,  Performing Viewshed Analysis in ArcGIS Pro, and  Sharing 3D Content Using Scene Layer Packages.  In the Introduction to 3D Visualization course introduced using 3D data visualization in GIS. You can visualize 3D data in a map view, local scene view, or a global scene view. When visualizing 2D features in a 3D scene you must determine how to draw the features in relation to the ground source. Cartographic offset and vertical exaggeration are tools used to manipulate height variables.  The Performing Line of Sight Analysis focused on how to use the Line of Sight tool to perform an analysis. The tool determines the visibility along sight lines given terrain. This is represented by the input surface, and obstructions which are represented by the input features.
