Lab 2 - Cartography

Image
The map above shows the location of the University of West Florida (UWF) main campus within Escambia county, Florida. The main map shows the UWF location in reference to cities, interstates, and major rivers located within Escambia county. The inset map in the top right corner depicts where Escambia county is located within Florida. This week was focused on presentation and cartographic skills that are essential when creating a map. By focusing on the data used, purpose of the map, and layout a more effective map can be created. Throughout this lab I learned the importance of identifying what you want the audience to convey from the map.

Intro to GIS - Lab1 Overview of ArcGIS

First week of learning GIS! During this week's introductory lab, I began building the groundwork for mastering the software. The lab focused on the basics of ArcGIS and how to navigate the software. While the program initially seemed straightforward to navigate, the overview lesson went into greater detail on various features within the software. Upon completing the first lesson, I feel more comfortable in navigating the software and how it can be used to better understand data. I am happy with how my first map turned out, mapping different major cities across the globe. I eagerly anticipate upcoming lessons to further my knowledge and understanding using ArcGIS.
